Create a ‘photo mosaic online’ to transform a main image into a collage made up of many small photos. How do I create your online photo mosaic?

  1. First, I work on your main image. I improve its sharpness and luminosity, and bring out its colours while adapting it to the format you have chosen. My priority is to highlight the main subject. If necessary, I can create a photo-montage to change the background or bring people together, according to your wishes.
  2. Then I concentrate on your hundreds of small photos. I crop them to ensure uniform proportions and alignment.
  3. I then assemble your photo mosaic online using specially configured software.
  4. The resulting file is raw, hence the importance of my colour retouching work. I soften the vignettes that are too pronounced, enhance the colours of the various elements and improve the faces. This stage includes retouching the skin, eyes and facial expressions to achieve a sharper, more accurate rendering.
  5. My main aim is to make the most of the smaller photos while highlighting the main image. I make sure they remain visible. Finally, I send you a preview by email for validation before starting the printing process.

How big will the small photos be?

Your photo mosaic will be made up of at least 2,600 small images. A larger number of photos improves the sharpness of the main image. However, the art of creating a successful mosaic lies in the right balance between the size of the small images and the sharpness of the overall image. If the thumbnails are too large, they risk giving a coarse effect. In general, thumbnail images are between 1.4 and 1.7 cm wide, allowing them to be seen clearly while preserving the integrity of the image as a whole.

Tips for Creating Your Photo Mosaic

To create a successful photo mosaic, the choice of the main photo is crucial. The mosaic technique cannot reproduce all the details of the main image perfectly. The subtle nuances of a landscape or the details of a group photo with more than 3 or 4 faces may not be fully reproduced. This is why mosaic portraits are often preferred, as the simple shapes of the face lend themselves better to this technique. A close-up is also recommended.

There are no special quality requirements for the thumbnails that make up the mosaic. A minimum of 2600 photos will be used and visible up close.
